Deborah Estrin

Deborah Estrin (Ph.D. MIT EECS (1985), B.S. UCB EECS (1980)) is a Professor of Computer Science at UCLA and founding Director of the NSF Science and Technology Center for Embedded Networked Sensing (CENS). Estrin has been instrumental in defining the research agenda for wireless sensor networks. Her research focuses on the technical challenges posed by these autonomous, distributed, physically coupled systems, with a particular focus on environmental monitoring. Earlier in her career she contributed to the design of Internet routing protocols. Estrin is a Fellow of the ACM, IEEE, and AAAS; she also serves on the NSF Advisory Committees for CISE and ERE Directorates, and on the NRC Computer Science and Telecommunications Board.
