Education Working Group to Meet in August
NEON has relied on the expertise of its “tiger teams” to review all key elements of the Observatory—science, technology, and education—and make detailed recommendations to NEON, Inc. That process continues August 10-11, when the NEON Education team holds its third and final meeting at the San Diego Supercomputer Center in La Jolla, California. The foundation for the group’s work was laid in meetings of the Education Subcommittees of the NEON Design Consortium. The wealth of ideas and information from those meetings enabled NEON to draft the education portion of the Integrated Science and Education Plan. The tiger team’s work (informed by comments and recommendations received from the review panels of the NSF Conceptual Design Review and Preliminary Design Review) focuses in detail on how to achieve the overarching NEON mission: to support public use of the Observatory and to help the scientific community use NEON to the fullest. Dr. Charlene D’Avanzo, Chair of the team, is scheduled to deliver its implementation plan in late September.
