NEON has completed civil construction at Disney Wilderness Preserve and Blandy Experimental Farm. Sensor deployment has begun on some sites; more coverage coming soon.

Ongoing Progress

NEON began construction of the observatory in Summer 2012. NEON sites under construction will fall along a spectrum in one of the following phases, and could occur out of numerical order:

  1. Civil construction
  2. Sensor installation, testing and acceptance
  3. Sensor system streaming data
  4. Release of organismal sampling protocols, acceptance of site-specific sampling design, and data collection started
  5. Site complete and data available


SITES SOON BEGINNING CIVIL CONSTRUCTION:

  • Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute (D2 core, VA): Starts approx. April 2013
  • Rocky Mountain National Park CASTNET (D10, CO): Starts approx. April 2013
  • Lajas Experimental Station (D4, PR): Starts approx. May 2013
  • Bartlett Experimental Forest (D1, NH): Starts approx. June 2013
  • Northern Great Plains Research Laboratory (D9, ND): Starts approx. June 2013

    • Ordway-Swisher Biological Station (D3 core, FL): Complete
    • Central Plains Experimental Range (D10 core, CO): Complete
    • Jones Ecological Research Center (D3, GA): Complete

    • Blandy Experimental Farm (D2, VA): Complete
