Environmental Observatory Programs Consider Modeling Issues

Ten NEON representatives were among 63 participants at a Modeling and Environmental Observatories Workshop held May 16-17, 2006, in Tuscon, Arizona. The event focused on cross-cutting modeling issues relevant to NSF's environmental observatory programs, including the three major MREFC observatory initiatives (NEON, OOI, and the WATERS Network). Workshop attendees made presentations on a variety of modeling approaches, explored models as educational tools, discussed connections between modeling and cyberinfrastructure activities, and addressed management issues. The workshop also helped to establish links between NSF and modeling groups in federal agencies. A summary of the event is posted on the Documents Page under "reports of potential interest."

NEON Welcomes Immediate Input

The latest draft of the NEON Integrated Science and Education Plan is now available online for comment. A rapid response from the community can influence the final NEON plan. Comments received by September 7 will be especially useful as NEON, Inc. and the National Science Foundation will be working to make additional decisions about the design of NEON before September 15. See the report and respond via the comment form. The plan is available in the Design Documents section of the Documents Page.
