NEON Notes: A New Focus and Update at ESA
With the third meeting of the NEON Design Consortium completed (Estes Park, Colorado, June 7-9, 2005), planning for the National Ecological Observatory Network will now focus on creating the reference design and Project Execution Plan (the NEON engineering blueprint) for delivery to NSF by June, 2006. The thoughtful input of colleagues at the Estes Park meetings is helping NEON to strengthen all of the project's evolving documents. New and more detailed NEON material will be presented in a special session at the annual meeting of the Ecological Society of America, in Montreal, Canada, August 7-12, 2005. Co-Directors Bruce Hayden, William Michener, and other NEON designers will present an overview of the design process and an update of NEON project planning. Additional presentations will address the NEON science mission, the integration of NEON science and education, and the role of embedded networked sensing in NEON. Special Session 10 is scheduled for August 10, 2005, from 8:00 am - 11:30 am.
